Selling on eBay can be a hobby or a full-blown business. It is why it is very important to educate yourself and understand all of eBay's policies so you won't be suspended in the first place.
But, in the event your eBay account is placed on hold, restricted, or suspended, there are specific steps you can take to try to have it reinstated. Not all suspensions from eBay are the same. Minor issues, such as expired methods of payment or late payments, are likely to result in your account being placed on hold, and your account can be reinstated as soon as you update your payment method or settle your unpaid bill.
Restrictions are more severe than holds and might be put in place if, for example, you don't meet minimum performance standards as a seller. For something like that, eBay might restrict you from selling certain items or lower your placement in search results. The only way to lift such a restriction is to meet eBay's standards. Suspensions usually occur only in the most egregious cases. For example, selling illegal merchandise or engaging in hate speech is likely to get a seller suspended indefinitely.
The first step in attempting to be reinstated on eBay is to identify the problem. If you are new, ignorance is your best defense. You may not know an item you have for sale has been recalled, or you may not know you can't use stock photos, like pictures of clothing from retail websites. Fixing the problem may be as simple as removing listings that were recalled in a massive recall of items from a specific company.
If it is an easy fix, eBay will explain exactly what you need to do to have your account reinstated. Instead, call them at and discuss.

An eBay suspension means business interruption, and often a cascade of problems with serious implications for the seller. Why does eBay suspend seller accounts? They want to make sure that no one gets hurt. Not the brand, not the buyer, and not the seller. Here are a few examples of common issues that can show up in performance metrics:.
Late shipping is a big issue. After all, most eBay customers check the estimated shipping time of the merchandise they buy.
So, before placing an order the customer has already set their delivery expectations. For instance, if the product description states delivery in three days, it better be delivered in three days. But it goes further than that. Online shoppers always want to know the status of their order.
Or they at least want to know that they can find out the status any time they want, and fast. So, sharing tracking numbers quickly is essential. Failure to submit tracking information quickly raises one of two flags.
Either poor seller workflow, or a failure to ship by a tracked service. Both are unacceptable, and compromise the trust with the buyer. Convincing eBay otherwise can be an uphill battle. Next, violating the defect rate metric is a fast track to suspension land. Sellers must address buyer communications and complaints really quickly, and with skill. To begin with, avoiding errors of perception is critical. In your templates, store page, Facebook page and website, describe yourself well.
Explain your commitment to the buyer. Show that you are a trustworthy and caring seller. Build enough confidence in your customer, that they trust working with you if they do have an issue. You must work with your customers, no matter how unreasonable or demanding they are being. You must also design your listings, and listing templates, with this in mind.
Think of how few negatives it takes to unseat hundreds of positives. Design your listings to help avoid future problems, even if it means fewer sales. Metrics are a blunt tool. A seller can work hard on their performance and have great metrics, but eBay sees the whole communication with buyers and can take action based on a single case, if it is warranted.
Metrics are there to help business owners manage key performance indicators, not to keep track of policy violations. A common violation is when sellers make deliberate attempts to manipulate their metrics. This ranges from aggressively pursuing buyers to change negative feedback, to as far as calling eBay pretending to be the buyer. If you contributing to below-standard buyer experiences or providing poor quality merchandise, you are not building a viable and healthy business on eBay, no matter how great your metrics are or how much money you are turning over.
The behavior listed above might lead to account suspension. What do they all have in common? And in order to do that reliably, they need to collect as much personally identifiable information from you as possible. Whenever a new account is opened, eBay compares the new account with every other account in its database. Then they use a simple, but very strict, 3-step process You heard right.
There's a sneaky thing they'll do to you after your eBay account has been suspended. You see, eBay is well aware of what you are going through. They know that you are so desperate to get your account back that you'll do almost anything to be allowed to sell again.
The truth is, they never had ANY intention of reinstating you, they only needed you to THINK so in order to get you to send them all your personal info so they can:. Collect money you may owe them or else ruin your credit. Accurately identify you if you try to open another account.
You probably sent them everything they asked for, hoping they would reinstate your account. But don't feel bad, because they do this to everybody - and everybody falls for it. But now they know exactly who you are and it will be impossible for you to open another account without getting it linked and suspended also. That is why you see some blog articles where the writer is so paranoid about re-registering another account. Because they don't know any other way, the'yll tell you to put yourself at the mercy of eBay's horrendous customer service and keep trying and trying for months and years - while you stay suspended with no money coming in.
If they told you that "your eBay account is suspended indefinitely", the ONLY way you will ever sell again is by The sooner you realize this, the sooner you'll get back to selling.
Because eBay cannot link this new account to any other account, they will assume you are a new member. And because they think you are a new member, they'll let you open an account and let you sell again. Some people think that making MOST of the information different will change their overall fingerprints and that this will be enough to fool eBay. But this is incorrect.
Even if you leave just ONE piece of information the same, it can be enough to link you. Some of these may seem unimportant to you, but eBay looks at everything. In other words It defeats the purpose if you get back on eBay, but then get kicked off again.

Are there cheaper products that will sell just as well?Suspension from eBay can happen to anyone. While we all want unscrupulous sellers to be banned as soon as possible to avoid giving eBay a bad reputation, sometimes honest sellers make mistakes or eBay on hold to handle a life crisis. If you have been suspended from eBay, re-registering for a new account is not the best way to get back on the site. This is the last thing you want to happen, especially if you depend on eBay for income rather than just hobby selling.
Once you have been blacklisted, getting back on eBay is nearly impossible. Information includes:. It is fine to have multiple stores, in fact, some sellers have up to eight different stores as a way to separate different kinds of inventory or keep income streams separate from each other. But eBay is vigilant about keeping repeat offenders off the site.
So it is not a wise move to try to immediately open a new account because that effort may fail and you will be in an even worse situation than if you contacted eBay to explain what happened.
Don't be afraid to call eBay and discuss the issue. They know sellers are real people with real lives and things happen. Sometimes being reinstated is as easy as paying your fees because your credit or debit card on file has expired and it just needs to be updated.
If you have a legitimate reason why your performance was not satisfactory, eBay may reinstate your account right away. The most important thing to remember when trying to have your eBay account reinstated is to be honest and get the representative on the phone to see you as a real person who has had a life crisis or personal issue that affected your ability to run your business. Some real reasons why your account may have slipped include:. They understand that things happen in sellers' lives and their business may be affected by a personal tragedy or crisis.
Once you have gone through this process, you will value your eBay selling privileges more than ever. Be careful not to let your account slip. While it is difficult to think straight during a personal crisis, you can always put your eBay store on vacation while you deal with personal issues. Or, you can extend your handling time to a very long time period, such as 30 days, until you get your life sorted out again.

Wondering if anybody else has had this or has had success getting an account reinstated. My account was suspended indefinitely as stated by the customer service rep, they are unable unwilling to discuss details with the customers.
My acct had positive feedback, none negative, none neutral. I had in ebay bucks that would have been dispersed 2 days after the suspension. At the time of the suspension I had not purchased anything on ebay for about a week.
I firmly believe this is a gross mistake on ebays part, and it negatively affects all three parties that are involved in ebay transactions, myself, the seller, and ebay. It's like a bad dream, this is lunacy. I can't get mad at customer service because they are just doing their job, but I wish I could get in contact with someone who actually cared about the company so that they could look at this case and see what a mistake it is.
Anyone who has had any similar experiences and made it out alive or are still stuck in it please let me know, I'm at a loss. The nearest thing I can think of doing is subpoena-ing them for all the information regarding my suspension. The clue might be right there. What cause of action will you be using in your formal legal complaint against eBay? You're planning on filing a civil action against eBay? The court will have to approve and issue it to eBay on your behalf.
A subpoena duces tecum, also known as a subpoena for production of evidence, literally means "bring with you under penalty. A recipient of a subpoena duces tecum is commonly required to present documents, such as personal papers and business records, and physical evidence to the court. If a court is convinced that the document request is legitimate, it will order the production of documents using a subpoena duces tecum. A subpoena differs from a summons in this regard, because the subpoena can require the production of evidence, while a summons can only order a person to appear in court.
My thought would be too many complaints, or leaving feedback consistently for sellers with conflicting DSRs. Or the connected accounts possibility.
